Information on Business:
Basics:
You have completed all of your teaching training and have a few years under your belt, now you are ready to break free on your own and teach on a one-on-one basis. Or may be you still want to teach at a classroom and be a private tutor on the side to make some extra income, either way you will continue to do what you love, teaching. You will occasionally get annoying students like in the classroom, so things are not much different. You will have your clients bring the students to your place, or you will meet at a public place or at their homes. Your clients seek your expertise on helping their children improve their study habits, subject knowledge and overall school performance. With that said you need to have excellent motivational and communication skills. The range of popular subjects being taught by private tutors is math, history, English, science and ESL (English as a Second Language).
To Get Started:
You should begin by purchasing the textbooks in the subjects you will teach, also plan some curriculum templates that you will use to teach, these should be flexible enough to allow for the individuality of each pupil. You should then advertise in the phone book, community online boards, and local newspapers, your best advertising will be your referral network with other education professionals such as teachers, principals and administrators. You should be able to charge $15 to $30 per hour. Keep an eye on traveling expenses since you will be traveling to your clients places of choice often.
Tips:
You can run this business from home. You will not need any assistance until you grow large enough to get associates and assistants. This is an opportunity for people with disabilities.
