Information on Business:
Basics:
As a story teller you will help your clients entertain their guests. Your clients will be mainly from libraries, day care centers, parents, and schools. Your art has been valued from long ago and it is up to you to tell the story in a way that captures the imaginations of your listeners. You need to know your stories and have a large collection of them just in case you need additional stories or just forgot the one you were about to tell. Good memorization skills are important and success in this business depends on your ability to tell each story as if you never told it before, not as the same hashed out story you've told over a hundred times, you don't want your listeners to think that you are not excited about your story. Memorizing is not the only way to tell the stories though, you can read them, but the same rules apply. You need to be enthusiastic about your story.
To Get Started:
You should begin this business by obtaining a collection of stories, make sure these stories will capture your imagination first, also make sure to control your purchasing of books or it might be hard to break even. You should advertise in online community boards, local newspapers, libraries, schools and day care centers, toy stores, ice cream shops, bakeries, candy stores. This business will not make you a ton of money, but as long as you enjoy it, you could make a decent part time business. Charge $20 to $30 per event (which can include many stories). Many parents have storytellers at their children's parties and special events, see what social networks in your area you can join to increase your exposure.
Tips:
You can run this business from home and since only you will be telling the stories you will most likely not need a staff. This business is an opportunity for people with disabilities.
